Edward Thomas Powell, Jr., affectionately known as "Brown", departed this life September 15, 2012. He was born September 21, 1935 in McClellanville, South Carolina, son of the late Edward and Emma Powell. Edward graduated from Lincoln High School, McClellanville, SC. He attended Bethel AME Church as a child. After graduation, he moved to New York and started his working career at American Brake Shoe. Years later, he began his own landscaping business. Edward met and married Naomi Smith who preceded him in death. He was predeceased by five sisters: Altheia P. Jones, Catherine Murray, Barbara E. Powell, Frances Nesbitt and Mary Louise Weston; four brothers: Fred Powell, William Powell, Augustus Weston, James Edward "Bob" Powell; and one son, Craig Edward Powell. Edward is survived by: two daughters, Karen Powell of New York and Alyce Bizzell (Jerry) of North Carolina; one son, Edward Powell of Albany, NY; three grandchildren; three sisters, Jestine Bennett, Yvonne Weston of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Annabelle P. Williams of McClellanville, SC; three brothers, Herbert Powell of Charleston, SC, Leonard Powell of McClellanville, SC and Richard Mitchell of Awendaw, SC; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Powell of Atlanta, GA, Deloris Powell of Awendaw, SC; one brother-in-law, Leroy Nesbitt of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one aunt, Minnie Powell of McClellanville, SC; his caregiver and niece, Sharan P. White of Beaufort, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Uncle Eddie will always be remembered for his free spirit of giving and helping when he could, his love for fishing and joking, his keen and sharp memory of dates, events and people that he shared with us. We will all remember the baked goodies and gourmet cooking that he would share with all. He was loved and will be missed by many.
