Elbert Teddie Simmons, the youngest son of the late Benjamin and Bertha Lee Simmons, was born June 5, 1956 in Moncks Corner, SC. He departed this life on October 21, 2022 in Moncks Corner, SC.
Elbert was a 1974 graduate of Berkeley High School (Stags). He was known as "Silk" because of his smoothness on the basketball court. He led the state in scoring points. Teddie showed good leadership. He was known as the "Quarterback" in basketball.
Teddie was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he attended Sunday School and started his spiritual growth. He faithfully attended until his health declined.
On his birthday June 5, 1984, Teddie married Sylvia Thomas, and they were blessed with two children, Elbert Jr. and Chelcie.
Teddie was employed in numerous jobs: welder, school custodian and office custodian.
On January 6, 2000, he married Diane Taylor. She remains a true friend to this day.
Teddie loved his family and leaves to cherish his memories: son, Elbert (Samantha) Simmons, Jr. of Summerville, SC; daughter, Chelcie N. Simmons of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Zane, Zavier and Zania; brother, Franklyn (Sadie) Simmons of Moncks Corner, SC; sister, Effie Simmons of Sanatoga, PA; aunt, Dorothy Young of Philadelphia, PA; uncle, Leroy Simmons of Richmond, VA; nephews, Tyrone (Evette) Simmons of Newport News, VA, Quincy Simmons of Charlotte, NC; niece, Krystal (Peter) Moreau of Memphis, TN; grandnephews and grandnieces; best friend, Ernell Wright of Moncks Corner, SC; and a host of cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held Monday, October 24, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Face masks are required. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1837 Old Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC, with viewing from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. There will be no viewing after the service.
