Obituary

Elder James Pinckney, Sr. was born on August 22, 1956, in Moncks Corner, SC, to David and Sadie Pinckney. After a life committed to serving the Lord, he received his eternal rest on June 9, 2021. He would often say he didn't want to live his entire life only to hear "depart from me" (Matthew 7:23). Surely, we can say Elder Pinckney responded to the beaconing of his Heavenly father and has heard, "well done, my good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21). He was a devoted and loving man to his family, church, and community.

Elder Pinckney was ordained in 2007 and served as the Assistant Pastor of International House of Prayer of Deliverance Church in Cordesville, SC, under the leadership of Bishop Samuel and Elder Anna Gibbs. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent. In addition to preaching and teaching the Word of God, Elder Pinckney was known for making sure every special occasion was celebrated with gifts, from Mother's Day to Children's Day and Birthdays to Church Anniversaries. He loved encouraging the youth and seeing all ages grow and mature in Christ. Elder Pinckney's love for people extended beyond his church to the community. He was always concerned about others and would do what he could to meet their needs or just let them know they were loved and remembered.

Elder Pinckney stood at 6'8" and carried a quiet demeanor. Many thought he was always serious. Those who knew him, especially his family and church family, hold dear the many moments of laughter and joy they shared. His laugh was rich and deep, reserved for those the Lord brought into his life as companions on his journey. Strangers would often ask if he played basketball. The answer was, "Nope, never did." Instead, in his earlier years, he enjoyed taking amateur piloting classes.

He  loved learning history and learning about the Word of God. He taught his family through home Bible Studies and creating traditions centered on Christ. As a faithful husband for over 39 years, he cherished spending quality time with his wife and the family they built together.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Missionary Sheila D. Pinckney; children, September-Joy Shelby, James Pinckney, Jr. (Delilah) and DeeDe Pinckney Holly (Reverend Kenneth); six grandchildren; brothers, David P. Pinckney (Vernell) and Rodney Gadsden; mother-in-law, Elder Elouise Smith; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
