Elijah Simmons, the sixth child and the youngest son of the late Peter Simmons, Sr. and Julia Spann Simmons, was born on September 27, 1937 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. After a brief illness, Elijah departed his life from this world on September 25, 2022, two days before his 85th birthday.

He was affectionately called "Lijah" or "Simino" by his family and close friends.

He was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County.

Elijah was the bachelor of the family. He lived in New York City for a period of time. Upon returning to South Carolina, he worked for several different companies.

Elijah was a teaser. He would make you laugh or cry. He would do the most darndest things to you. If you were afraid of something (such as a snake or mouse), he would put it in a brown bag and give it to you as a gift from the store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Sr. and Julia Simmons; two brothers, Arthur and Peter, Jr.; and four sisters, Bertha, Isadora, Carrie and Francina.

Although Elijah did not have any children, he truly loved his nieces and nephews and his grandnieces and nephews.

Those left to cherish his memory are: two sisters, Corine Chavis and Rev. Thelma (Deacon John) Perkins both of Moncks Corner, SC; 21 nieces and nephews in various states; other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at O. Allen Gethers Jr. Memorial Chapel, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC. Face masks are required. Interment will be in Simmons Estate Cemetery, Moncks Corner, SC.
