Elijah Walter Thompson, son of the late Jim Bash and Rosa Thompson Bash, was born on June 29, 1927 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. On Monday, October 8, 2012, Walter entered into eternal rest at home with his family. Walter attended the public schools of Berkeley County. Walter found Christ at an early age, and joined Wesley United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member. On April 24, 1955, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Edna Mae Middleton. This union was blessed with six wonderful children and three children that were reared as their own. Walter worked for Berkeley County Road and Bridges for forty-one years as a Machine Operator, retiring in 1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Edna Ernestine Thompson; sisters, Mary Bryant, Dolly Williams, Josephine Evans and Hattie Dingle; and brothers, Johnny Thompson and Frank Thompson. Walter leaves to cherish his loving memories: his long-time sweetheart and devoted and faithful wife, Edna Mae Thompson; children, Elijah (Ophelia) Palmer of Bonneau, SC, Charles W. (Barbara) Thompson, Dollie T. (John) Wheeler, Minnie T. Simmons and Johnny (Debra) Thompson all of Moncks Corner, SC; children he reared as his own, Salley T. (Leland) Palmer of Summerville, SC, James (Izetta) Thompson of Ladson, SC and Arthur Dale (Corine) Thompson of Moncks Corner, SC; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Samuel Middleton and Johnnie Freeman; two sisters-in-law, Janey Middleton of San Diego, CA and Rebecca Middleton of St. Stephen, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
