Brother Elijah I. White, son of the late Hattie Rivers White McNeil and the late Johnny White, was born on July 24, 1919 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at his son's residence, Cordesville, South Carolina. He attended the public schools of Berkeley County. Elijah enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He later received an Honorable Discharge. At an early age, Elijah became a member of Greater Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served on the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Leader of Class No. 6 and was a member of the Gospel and Senior Choirs. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ophelia White, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his children, Elijah I. White, II, Beverly White, Terry White and honorary son, Derrick Watson. Brother White leaves to cherish his precious memories: his children, Ernestine Fludd of Brooklyn, NY, Johnny L. White US Army-Retired (Sabine) of Killeen, TX, Walter J. White, Sr. USAFR-Retired and Adlai White both of Cordesville, SC, Patricia A. Middleton of Goose Creek, SC and Bobby White USMC-Retired of Jonesboro, GA; honorary daughter, Judy E. Thar (Daniel) of Cordesville, SC; a devoted brother, Harry White of Cordesville, SC; a loving, devoted sister-in-law, Lou Bertha White of Cordesville, SC; a devoted godson, David Rivers of Cordesville, SC; two daughters-in-law, Veronica White of Moncks Corner, SC and Delores Watson of St. Stephen, SC; fifteen grandchildren; a host of honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
