Obituary

Eliza Bennett, the daughter of the late Albert and Queen Victoria Bennett, was born September 22, 1929, in Bonneau, South Carolina.  She departed this life on June 28, 2016, at her residence.

"Liza", as she was known to family and friends, accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel United Methodist Church, St. Stephen, SC. She attended faithfully until her illness.

Eliza was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and a mind for business.  She built an entertainment building to serve the Forty One Community. She named the business "Club Forty One" and later renamed it "Eliza Bennett Place" and operated it for 40 years.

Eliza helped the youth and adults in the community by providing them spending money and buying various items they needed.  She enjoyed working in her garden and planting flowers.  Her favorite pastime was going fishing with her friends.

Eliza was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarena Addison; her sisters, Lottie Toomer, Jessemae Hamm and Leola Bennett-Myers; and grandchildren, Lisa Bennett and Thomas Ravenell Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Barbara Washington of Sumter, SC and Sandra Bennett of St. Stephen, SC; one son, Albert Bennett of St. Stephen, SC;  a grandson of the home, Samuel Parsons III; seven grandchildren: Shelly (Stephen) Bowens of Alexandria, VA, Leslie Washington of Dallas, TX, John (Keisha) Henry Coaxum, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Lorie (AJ) James of Sumter, SC, Isaac Coaxum of Alexandria, VA. Stephanie (Will) Walker of Colorado Springs, CO, and Dennis (Christen) Addison, Jr. of Albany, GA; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Paulin of St. Stephen, SC and Christine Pettigrew of St. Louis, MO; two brothers, Willis Jefferson of Tallahassee, FL and Mazyck "Lloyd" Bennett of Brooklyn, NY; two sons-in-law, Dennis Addison and Thomas Ravenell both of St. Stephen, SC; one brother-in-law, Artis Myers of Brooklyn, NY; two special cousins, James (Gloria Jean) Gethers and Warnie "Doc" Bennett; a special friend, Lugenia Judge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
