Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,

I have kept the faith."

II Timothy 4:7

Eliza Grant Harleston , daughter of the late Sam Grant, Sr. and Estelle Brown Grant was born on August 5, 1919. Quietly and peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of our dear Mother, and she entered into her eternal rest.

Eliza attended the public schools of Berkeley County, South Carolina.

Eliza was united in Holy Matrimony to Leroy Harleston, Sr. on June 9, 1935. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son.

Eliza joined Graham A.M.E. Church (presently Moncks Corner A.M.E. Church) where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was a very faithful and dedicated member of the Senior Choir, Women's Missionary Society and Stewardess Board #2.

For over 30 years, Eliza worked for Mr. Algie Kennedy on Carolina Avenue, Moncks Corner, SC.

Eliza was a pillar of the community and gave unselfishly to her fellowman. She was humble and served as a role model for her family and the community. She was a surrogate mother to many whom she befriended through family ties.

Eliza loved quilting, sewing and baking. She was known for her Fresh Apple Walnut Cake and tea biscuits.

Today we pause to pay tribute to her transition and rejoice her Home Going. We celebrate her as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. "Momma", we will truly miss you, but a loving God knows best. We will always remember your smiling face and life lessons.

Those who shared the joy of life with her will always miss and cherish her memories. She leaves them to carry on her caring spirit: one son, Leroy Harleston, Jr., one daughter, Kathleen "Kat" Simmons (Rev. Leonard), both of Moncks Corner, SC; seven grandchildren: JoAnn (Abraham) Manigault of Moncks Corner, SC, Sidney (Linda) Gray of Aiken, SC, Myra Gray, Reggie (Faye) Simmons, Ramona (Terrell) Pinckney, Lenny Simmons, all of Moncks Corner, SC and Kyle Harleston, of New York; great-grandchildren: Cassandra (Lawrence) Flournoy, Aaron Manigault, Antonett (Robert) Fields, Crystal Manigault, Marquis Gray, Jowan Gray, Evan Pinckney, Tyler Pinckney, Reagan Pinckney, Makayla Simmons, Bradley Wilson, Gemma Simmons, Kyla Harleston; great-great grandchildren: Jonez Fields, Nevaeh Fields, Aaliyah Manigault, Arianna Manigault, Justice Flournoy, Mason Flournoy; son-in-law, Joseph "Josie" Gray of Moncks Corner SC; sister-in-law, Mary W. Grant of Moncks Corner, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends whom loved her dearly.

Eliza was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Estelle Grant; husband, Leroy, Sr.; daughter, Shirley Gray; four sisters, Evelyn, Margaret, Wilhemina and Bertha; four brothers, Roosevelt, Sam, Jr. Isiah, Jessie; and daughter-in-law, Diane Hopkins Harleston.

A human spirit will take a flight at the call of the

Heavenly Father to the mansion prepared for them from

the foundation of the earth by an all wise, loving and just God.
