With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mr. Ernell Wright of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, our longtime Funeral Director and Embalmer Emeritus, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Ernell was a devoted husband and father, a respected funeral service professional, a trusted friend to many, and someone whose warmth and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

For more than 45 years, Ernell served as a licensed funeral director and embalmer with Gethers Funeral Home. Throughout those years, he became much more than a colleague. He was our friend, our brother, and a cherished part of the Gethers Funeral Home family.

Ernell took great pride in his profession and approached his work with dedication and respect for the families he served. A graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia, he brought many years of knowledge and experience to his work. Those who worked alongside Ernell also knew his wonderful sense of humor. He could keep the staff laughing, and during some of our most stressful and demanding days, Ernell often knew just when a good joke was needed.

Ernell also developed a special love for Ghana, West Africa, a place he thoroughly enjoyed visiting. He would sometimes stay for months at a time and return home with plenty of stories and memories to share.

Away from work, Ernell enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching Westerns and Law & Order, and cheering for the Miami Dolphins and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. These were among the many things he enjoyed and that family and friends will remember about him.

Ernell was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) and the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association (SCFDA).

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dr. Annette Singleton Wright; daughters, Dr. Brittanni Wright and her husband, Nii Noi Ocquaye, and Cheryl Wright, Esquire; siblings, Richard Wright and his wife, Betty, Reverend Michael Wright and his wife, Althea, Barbara J. Whittaker, Evelina Hodges, Janie L. Williams, and Beverly A. Green and her husband, Isaac; mother-in-law, Ruthey M. Golden; in-laws; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; and his Gethers Funeral Home family.

The family is not receiving visitors at the home at this time. We kindly ask that you respect their need for privacy while continuing to surround them with your prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.

Visitation and viewing will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gethers Funeral Home, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Moncks Corner AME Church, 306 West Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. The casket will be closed at 10:55 a.m. There will be no viewing thereafter.

Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery, 1010 Cooper Store Road, Moncks Corner, SC.
