Obituary

Catherine Woods T. Gerald was born in St Stephen, SC. On Tuesday March 4, 1947, to the late Clarine Davis and the late Joseph (Annie Mae) Canty, Sr. Catherine was called from labor to reward on Saturday morning, April 30, 2022, at her home surrounded by her husband, children, and granddaughter.

Catherine grew up in St Stephen, SC where she was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She graduated from Russellville High School in 1967.  Upon graduating high school, she moved to Washington DC where she met and married the late John Lewis Tolson.  Two children were blessed from this union: Delores A. Tolson and Cynthia E. Tolson. She later moved back to St. Stephen and married Calvin "Reggie" Gerald on Tuesday, September 28, 1971. Three children were blessed from this union: Patricia R. Gerald, Calvin J. Gerald, and Kelvin T. Gerald.  Reggie and Catherine were married for 50 years.

Catherine was a dedicated worker for Reliable Electric Corporation for ten years in St Stephen until it closed. She then attended Trident Technical College graduating with degrees in Early Care Education (1996) and Early Childhood Development (2002). She loved everything about teaching and she enjoyed the children in her classes. She had a great relationship with her students and their parents, and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Parents were always eager to volunteer in her class.

One Friday night in October 1974, Catherine attended a church service with her aunt that would change her life forever. That night she was saved, and filled with the Holy Ghost, and even preached her first sermon. Since that night, she boldly let her light shine all over the Lowcountry preaching, singing and praying. During her years of ministry, she a revivalist, teacher, prayer warrior, devotional leader, songstress, choir singer and mistress of ceremonies, drummer, and winner of souls.   She is indeed a Five Star General for Christ, preaching for over 40 years. She thoroughly enjoyed working in the church, serving the Lord, not out of necessity, but out of the cheerfulness of her delighted heart.  She attended New Covenant Baptist Church in St. Stephen until her health prevented her from doing so.  Catherine impacted many lives in her years of ministry and was a mentor and confidant to many.

Catherine loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and would spend every opportunity she could cooking for them, traveling, and hanging out watching television and listening to music. She was also a phenomenal cook and was famous for her chicken perlo rice, cornbread, and green punch.  She spent her golden years faithfully leading a weekly prayer call every Tuesday at noon, enjoying the company of her husband and children, catching up with friends and family on the telephone. She enjoyed playing word games, indulging in her crossword puzzles, watching game shows from the 1970s, and watching the Hallmark Channel and many television ministries.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving husband, Calvin Reggie Gerald; her children, Minister Delores (Alphonsa) Mustapher, Jr., Cynthia E. Tolson, Patricia R. Gerald, Calvin J. Gerald and Kelvin T. Gerald; grandchildren, Altonio (Beverly) Mustapher, Keiara (Justin) Ravenell and Celensia Tolson; great-grandchildren, Prince A. Ravenell and Judah J. E. Ravenell; spiritual son, Garren Gibbs; heart daughter, Diane Bryant: siblings, Walter (Gloria) Davis, Edward (Angie) Davis, Margaret (Greg) Perkins, Albert Davis, Daniel (Alma) Davis, Harry Davis, Betty Canty, Mary Canty Henderson, Juanita Canty, Joseph (Redina) Canty, Jr. and Eric Canty; in-laws, Barbara Davis, Vernetta Davis, Evangelist Priscilla Lawrence, Ralphine (George) Hall, Janon B.
