Melissa received her education in the public schools of Orangeburg County. She was a 1984 graduate of Holly Hill-Roberts High School. After serving the Johnson Temple COGIC for many years, she served at the Outreach to the Unreach Deliverance Church where the Apostle LeGrand Ingram is the angel of the house.
