With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Evelyn Lambright Gethers of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the remarkable age of 97. She was the widow of David A. Gethers.

Mrs. Gethers brought joy to those around her. She was known for her cheerful spirit and her love of exercise, and she remained active well into her later years. A retired elementary school teacher with the Berkeley County School District, she gave many years to the children she taught.

Her faith was an important part of her life. As a devoted member of Mt. Carmel AME Church, she served on the Trustee Board, the Stewardess Board, and the Spiritual Wings Choir. She also willingly helped wherever she was needed. Mrs. Gethers was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Herman Jenkins (Rev. Yvonne); grandsons, Jarmaine Jenkins (Shanta) and Robert Williams; great-grandchildren, Noah and Heaven Jenkins; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. They will miss her joyful presence and hold close the many memories she leaves behind.

Viewing will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gethers Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel AME Church, 1059 Old Black Oak Road, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
