Felirley "Flip" Wright, the son of the late James "Moser" Wright and Rebecca Brown, was born on April 10, 1932 in Pineville, South Carolina. He was reared by his father and stepmother, Missouri P. Wright. Felirley entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 28, 2014. Felirley was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. Later, he moved to Brooklyn, NY in the 1950's. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Byrdnell Williford on June 8, 1960. This union was blessed with six children. Felirley and his family moved to Brentwood and eventually settled in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York in 1978. In 1970, he started working for the town of Islip Bay Shore as a Broom Mechanic, where he was well respected and made many friends. Felirley joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brentwood, NY on April 8, 1973 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. R.M. Logan. He served as a Deacon until 1989. He was a member of the Logan Singers, Inspirational Choir, Male Chorus and served on the Board of Trustees. Felirley was a member of St. Mark's Lodge No. 19, F. & A.M. and Queen Vashti Chapter No. 14, OES of Brentwood, NY. Felirley retired in 1989, his motto was, "Let the good Lord lead me and the government feed me." On December 1, 1989, Flip relocated to Pineville, SC where he lived until his death. He joined Messiah Reformed Episcopal Church in Pineville, SC. Felirley sang with The Berkeley Male Choir. Flip loved singing, listening to his favorite gospel group, The Blind Boys of Alabama, laughing and telling jokes. When it came to telling jokes, he could not be beat. He was also known as a sharp dresser. He enjoyed watching baseball, old westerns starring Clint Eastwood and talking on his C.B. radio. He was known throughout Bay Shore by his famous C.B. handle, "THE EMPTY WALLET" and had a love for automobiles. He also made contributions to several organizations such as: Wounded Warriors, American Cancer Society and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Felirley was preceded in death by a son, Larry "Blan" Benekin and a daughter, Stella Eadie-Gilliard. Felirley leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Byrdnell Wright; four sons, James (Michelle) Wright and Robert Wright both of Long Island, NY, Henry Seabrook of Pineville, SC and Felix Wright (Lisa Glover) of Greer, SC; eight daughters, Robin Derrick and Rosalind Wright both of Bronx, NY, Charlene Wright and Ferlirleen (Tracy) Wright Branch both of Long Island, NY, Richardeen Daniels of Augusta, GA, Dr. Cynthia (Collin) Wright-Sheppy of Orlando, FL, Lula Mae Seabrook of Pineville, SC and Deborah (Freddie) Wright of Moncks Corner, SC; three sisters, Charlotte (James) Clemons of Cross, SC, Beatrice Johnson of Hoboken, NJ and Maybell Wright of Jersey City, NJ; 40 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
