Jr.
July 29, 1939 – April 9, 2021
Fletcher Gillard, Jr. was born on July 29, 1939 in Holly Hill, South Carolina, son of Fletcher Gillard, Sr. and Emma Washington.
Fletcher was educated in the Berkeley County School System. Upon completion, he moved to New York where he began his adult life.
While living in New York, Fletcher met and fell in love with Ms. Hazel Mazyck. They were united in holy matrimony on July 1, 1961. This union was blessed with three beautiful children: Sheila, Keith and Cheniqua.
Fletcher was a wonderful provider. He worked several jobs until landing the job he loved as a Logistics Specialist at the largest fruit and vegetable distributor, Hunts Point Terminal Market, in the Bronx, New York. After working there many years, he retired and decided to return back to Moncks Corner, South Carolina with his loving wife and son where he lived happily.
Fletcher was a devoted member of Greater St. James A.M.E. Church where he performed many tasks including singing on the Male Choir which he enjoyed immensely.
Fletcher was called home to glory on April 9, 2021.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Hazel Gillard; their children, Sheila V. Gillard, Keith I. Gillard and Cheniqua A. Gillard; three grandchildren, Chais S. Mack, Sydney J. Watkins and Jaemeson Watkins; sister, Louise Shaw (James); and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Fletcher was preceded in death by: his father, Fletcher Gillard, Sr; mother, Emma Washington; the woman he called "Mama", Mabel Stephens, who raised him from the age of four; siblings, Annie Foster, Francis Ritter, Gracie R. White, Bernice Clark, Charles G
Viewing will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at Greater St. James AME Church Cemetery, 1831 Jedburg Road, Summerville, SC. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh
