Obituary

Brother Fred Sinclair Reid was born on July 30, 1931, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, a son of the late Mr. George Reid, Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Manigault Reid. He was the fourth of eleven children. Fred was nurtured in a Christian home and attended the Moncks Corner A.M.E. Church in South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at 5:10 a.m. in the Veterans Hospital, located in New York City. He received his education in the Berkeley County School System. Upon graduating from Berkeley High School, Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the Intelligence Department in the capacity of The Mission Area Plans (MAP's) for ten years. Fred received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. Bro. Fred relocated to New York City in 1961 to unite and marry the love of his life, the late Margaret Betty Reid. Fred later joined St. Luke A.M.E. Church in New York City under the pastorate of the late Rev. S. Frank Emmanuel. Fred was a faithful member of Class #17 and the Peter J. Lance Male Usher Board. He served under Rev. Melvin E. Wilson (former pastor) and continued to serve under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Marcellus A. Norris, the current pastor. Fred loved the Lord, his church family and looked forward to attending worship service on Sundays. He was employed at the Metropolitan Opera House for 35 years and implemented Computerized Ticket Sales. He retired in 1992. In 1994, Fred returned to the workforce part-time for the Salvation Army Harlem Temple Corps. Brother Fred was a strong, independent man who loved his family and wanted the best for them and instilled the importance of being exposed to different cultures. He was very fond of the Opera House and whenever the opportunity arose, he would take the family to the Metropolitan Opera House. He was an avid reader, fanatic at crossword puzzles and enjoyed social gatherings with family and friends. He leaves to cherish fond memories three daughters, Vera Sutton of Matawan, NJ, Mary Lewis and Elizabeth Reid of Bronx, NY; four sons, Christopher Reid (Pamela) of Hackettstown, NJ, Fred A. Reid (Gwendolyn), Jerome A. Reid (Sinita) of New York City, NY and JC Brown (Linda) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren: Rabiah Medley (Tyrone), Christopher McConneughey, Shanea Payne, Shaun Reid, Bryan Reid, Michael Durham, Aston Austin, and Brianne Durham; great-great-grandchildren: Shaun, Trey, Byrce, Jeremy, Taj, Sameer, Sheron, Bryan, Cameron and Akari; three brothers, George Reid (Rev. Lillie Mae), Leroy Haynes, Sr. of Moncks Corner, SC and Clarence Reid (Carolyn) of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Viola Rogers, Verdelle Williams (Brister) of Moncks Corner, SC; two sisters-in-law, Evalena and Ida Sutton of McClellanville, SC; one brother-in-law, Jesse Sutton (Mary) of Myrtle Beach, SC; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
