Obituary

Gabe Bowens III , son of Gabe Bowens, Jr. and the late Mary Ann Burton Bowens, was born on July 5, 1977 in Brooklyn, New York.  He departed this life on Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Sumter, South Carolina.

Gabe, known as "Shorty", attended schools in New York City, NY until the family relocated to South Carolina.  He then attended the public schools in Berkeley County, SC and was a 1995 graduate of Macedonia High School. He attended DeVry Institute in Georgia.

Gabe's "INF" motto was " I N eva F all".  He was a very compassionate person.  He also had a giving spirit. Anything Gabe put his mind to, he completed. He wrote and published two books, "Urban Fiction: Just A Week Ago, The Paper Boy, 360 ° " and "American Fight Club: Primal Elements." Gabe enjoyed teaching, especially the subjects of English, Black American History and plumbing.

Gabe was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Bowens and brother Frederick Keith Bowens.

Those left behind to cherish his memories are: his father, Gabe (Maxine) Bowens of Bonneau, SC; sisters, Norma Coretta Bowens Hubbard of St. Stephen, SC and Ebony (Jamel) Roulhac of Long Island, NY; brother, Edward (Valencia) Kelly of Chesapeake, VA; niece, Valita Burton; nephews, Darius (Jackie) Bowens, Christian and Mariantonio Hubbard, and Douglas Kelly; very special friend, Jessica Smalls Bowens; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
