Ms. Geneva Borden, the seventh child of James and Virginia Borden, was born on October 6, 1924 in Cordesville, South Carolina. Geneva was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She joined Irving Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age, where she served until she journeyed to New York in 1946. Upon her arrival to New York City, Geneva established her career and enjoyed the cultural environment that northern life offered; often traveling back to South Carolina to visit family and friends. Geneva departed this life on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 after a short illness. Geneva's only beloved daughter, Virginia Poincey, preceded her in death. However, Geneva kept her daughter's memory alive throughout the years by sharing various stories and memories with family and friends. Geneva was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, Benjamin and Harris Borden. Geneva is survived by her one loving sister, Maggie Borden of Cordesville, SC; one brother, James Borden, Jr. of Charleston, SC; three sisters-in-law, Cloey Borden of New York, NY, Iola Borden of New York, NY and Loretta Borden of Cordesville, SC. Geneva is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
