Obituary

" And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." - Luke 21:28 KJV

Geneva Davis, daughter of the late Henry Jenkins and Mamie Washington Jenkins, was born on September 23, 1940 in Pineville, South Carolina. She was the second of twelve children.

Geneva attended the Berkeley County School System. At an early age, she left Pineville and relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, she continued her education by attending night school. She was immediately employed to fulfill her dream of making life better for her parents and siblings. In 1959, she was able to relocate her entire family: her parents, 10 siblings and her daughter, Annette Bryant to Jersey City with her.

At a very early age, she became a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. James N. Williams, where she received Jesus as her Lord and personal Savior. While serving at New Hope, she held numerous positions. She was a member of the Deaconess Board and Usher Board where she served faithfully in all that she did. She was also a member of her family group, The New Generation Singers. Geneva was united in Holy Matrimony to Minister Johnnie Davis in March 1965. He preceded her in death.

Geneva was employed with Summergrad for 30 years, where she finally retired as a Seamstress.

In 1999, Geneva and Minister Johnnie Davis relocated to Pinopolis, SC to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Immediately after relocating to Pinopolis, they became members of Abiding Word Family Ministries, where she became affectionately known as Mother Davis, as she operated in her position as Mother of the church. There was not a Sunday where you would not find Mother Davis sitting in her special seat. She was an example to many in her church and community. If you knew her, you would love her, because she was just that loving. She served faithfully for many years until her health began to fail. In the midst of her blindness and her challenging health, you would still see her, with assistance from others, making her way to her favorite seat.

Geneva peacefully transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at her home.

She leaves to cherish a lifetime of precious memories: her daughter, Annette (Sam) Gourdine; grandchildren, Jessica Gourdine, Jason (Dontrell) Gourdine and Nicholas (NaTasha) Gourdine; great-grandchildren, Kingston and Princeton Gourdine; siblings, Willie Mae Waiters, Julia (Freddie) Hymes, Jeff (Jeanette) Jenkins who was in the home with her serving as her caregiver, Earl Jenkins, Jasper Jenkins, Lucille (John) Gourdine and Barbara Hauser; godson, Brandon Hauser; a host of nieces, nephews,  other relatives and friends.
