George Thornley Coaxum was born on August 27, 1939 in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of the late George and Hattie Levy Coaxum. He was the fourth child of seven children born to this union.

George, affectionately known as "Junior" or "Juicy", received his formal education in the Berkeley County School District. As a youngster, he, his parents and siblings dutifully attended Moncks Corner A.M.E. Church where he first received Christ as his Lord and Savior.

At an early age, George was employed at Gethers Cleaners in Moncks Corner, SC. He later relocated to New York, NY where he worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

George was a diehard New York Mets fan. He also enjoyed playing dominos and cards. He will long be remembered as one who enjoyed meeting people for he was a true conversationalist. George was kind and thoughtful and his selfless nature enables him to give of himself tirelessly. He was in the true sense of the word a "friend" to all who knew him. He enriched all of our lives and will be missed by everyone he has touched. George was a loving father of three children who meant the world to him. He cherished his time spent with them and was particularly proud of them.

On Saturday morning, May 26, 2018, God's mercy prevailed. This marked the end of George T. Coaxum's earthly journey and began God's promise of peace and eternal life.

George will be missed and forever remembered by: his three children, Kevin J. Graham (Keisha), Michael Coaxum, Sr. (Stephanie) and Tanya "TC" McNeil; his siblings, Elizabeth Oliver, Joseph Coaxum (Erneatha), Susan Wilkey (Herbert), Johnnie Coaxum, Sr. (Elizabeth) and Frank Coaxum; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; devoted friend, Albertha McNeil Duval; adopted children, Dwayne Huff and Raymond; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Erneatha Smalls and Ella Mae Greene; and two brothers, Samuel Coaxum and Jerome Coaxum.
