George Calvin Cooper began his life on February 14, 1926 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He was one of five children of the late Albert and Mary Cooper. George grew up in Moncks Corner and studied at the local elementary and high school. He later served his country by joining the United States Navy. He received an honorable discharge in May of 1946. After his discharge from the Navy, George eventually made his home in Manhattan, New York. He was employed by the United States Postal Service until he retired. After retirement, George returned to his roots in Moncks Corner, SC. He departed this life May 13, 2011 in Mt. Pleasant, SC. George was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Arthur Cooper. George is survived by a loving wife and caregiver, Beatrice Fashion Cooper; three daughters, Joyce Horton, Janice Johnson (Jehu) and Carolyn Cooper all of York, PA; one stepson and caregiver, Leroy Nelson, Jr. (LaNell) of Lilburn, GA; seven grandchildren of York, PA, three step-grandchildren of Lilburn, GA and two great-grandchildren of York, PA; siblings, Louise Funderberg of New Haven, CT and Albert Cooper, Jr. of Jersey City, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
