George Geathers, son of the late Isiah and Janie Manigault Geathers, was born August 17, 1937, in McClellanville, South Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at his residence in Summerville, SC.
George was educated in the public schools of Charleston County. He was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School, McClellanville, SC. He migrated to New York and became employed at Creedmoor State Hospital, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. He then became employed at the New York City Sanitation Department for 10 years and retired from there. After retirement, he relocated to Summerville, SC.
George accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined Greater Mt. Zion AME Church. He served there faithfully until his passing.
George was united in holy matrimony to Gloria Wooden on September 6, 1974. This union was blessed with two sons.
George will be remembered for his gentle spirit and unwavering faith. His love for his family and friends were expressed through his many visits with them. George's passions were bowling, fishing, watching cowboy movies, crossword puzzles, and watching sports. He will be missed by many.
George leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Gloria A. Geathers of Summerville, SC; two children, Henry (Autherine) Thompson of North Charleston, SC and Timothy Harris of Queens, NY; five siblings, Wilhelmenia Harrell, David (Linda) Geathers, Sterling (Celeste) Geathers all of McClellanville, SC, Sara Ann (Carl) Robinson of Richmond, VA, and Lillian Weathers of Bronx, NY; four grandchildren, Kesha, Donte, Felicia, and Adrian Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Toneka, Keshyra, and Jarvis Thompson; three great, great-grandchildren, Kashton, Trenten, and Jaxon; brothers-in-law, Kevin (Lavern) Wooden of Ladson, SC, Gershom (Anna) Wooden of Staten Island, NY, and Arthur Phyall of McClellanville, SC. George will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
George was preceded in death by siblings: Jerry and Martin Geathers, Caroline Dilligard, Lucille Phyall, Sadie Weems, and Mae Emma Manning.
