George Smith, Jr., affectionately known as "Junior", was born August 13, 1963, in Aiken, South Carolina, a son of Mrs. Sarah Ella Smith and the late Mr. George Smith, Sr. George departed this life on August 12, 2012, at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, SC. George received his education in the public schools of the Berkeley County School District, Moncks Corner, SC. While in high school, he was a member of the Berkeley Stags Varsity Football Team. During his time on the team, Berkeley won the State Championship in 1981. George was employed by Westvaco, and later employed by HealthSouth, Columbia, SC until his illness. At an early age, George joined Nazareth Reformed Episcopal Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. After relocating to Irmo, SC, George became a member of St. Peter Baptist Church. On December 30, 1989, George was united in holy wedlock to the love of his life, Miss Mildred Borden. This union was blessed with two sons. George was passionate about football. In most of his conversations with others, he talked about football. While hospitalized, he shared his love of football with the nurses. He also attended every one of his sons' games to give them support. George leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife, Mildred B. Smith of the home; two sons, Aaron D. Smith and Montel J. Smith; his mother, Sarah Ella Smith of Moncks Corner, SC; his siblings, Caroline Smith, Alpha R. Smith both of Moncks Corner, SC and George (Tiffany) Myers of Augusta, GA; mother-in-law, Loretta Borden of Cordesville, SC; sister-in-law, Mary (Raymond) Grant of North Charleston, SC; brothers-in-law, Harris (Mary) Borden of Goose Creek, SC and Jerald (Shelia) Borden of Cordesville, SC; aunts, Maggie Sass of Goose Creek, Mary Ann (James) Ware of North Augusta, SC, Flora McCants of Moncks Corner, SC and Maggie Borden of Cordesville, SC; uncles, William (Justine) Smalls of Moncks Corner, SC, Leroy Smith of Philadelphia, PA, and Ed Borden of Charleston, SC; three close friends, Billy Dubose, Wayne Westbury and Kelly Shine; nieces, nephews, and a host of other cherished relatives and friends.
