Georgia Lee Plowden Mathis, the daughter of the late Rosa Wilson and Jake Plowden, Sr., was born June 13, 1924, in Manning, South Carolina. She transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on September 4, 2016, at her residence in Moncks Corner, SC.
Georgia was educated in the Clarendon County School System.
She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at the Powerhouse of Deliverance Church where she was a member under the leadership of her son, the late Apostle John W. Johnson, Sr. Georgia was a woman of faith who believed in the Word of God and loved reading the Holy Bible. She also enjoyed singing and gospel music.
Georgia was united in holy matrimony on March 28, 1946 to Harry Mathis, Sr. who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Apostle John W. Johnson, Sr. and brother Jake Plowden, Jr.
"Jo", as she was known to many, was a devoted mother and grandmother. She touched the lives of many through her kindness and her words of wisdom. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit.
She leaves to cherish her memory: five daughters, Deloris McNeil, Janet Mathis, Vermell Mathis, Ethel Mathis and Jestine Mathis all of Moncks Corner, SC; one son, Minister Harry Mathis, Jr. (Minister Jestine) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Mother Rosezenia B. Johnson of Jamestown, SC; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and six great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
