Obituary

Mr. Glenn Theirse, a son of Mrs. Albertha Theirse and the late Mr. Foster Theirse, was born on December 3, 1953 in Pineville, South Carolina. He was an amazing young man, with many talents and gifts. On December 30, 2008, Glenn entered his eternal home from the Roper-St. Francis Hospital Center, Charleston, South Carolina. Today, we celebrate his memory, and recall with great affection, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, godfather, godson, cousin and phenomenal friend. Glenn accepted Christ and became a member of Messiah Reformed Episcopal Church in Pineville, SC. Over the years, he served as Superintendent of the Sunday school (Superintendent Emeritus, until his passing); a member of the Vestry Board; a Junior Warden; past President of the Ever Ready Board (a training program for boys and young men); a member of the Willing Workers organization; a former Choir Member and founder of "the 100 Men in Black Program." Glenn was a tireless worker on behalf of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He also enjoyed many interesting hobbies; some of which were: fishing, crabbing; shrimping, and hunting. During the period of its existence, Glenn was a member of the St. Stephen Sluggers Baseball Team, and was affectionately known as "Teddy Bear." Glenn's formal education was accomplished in the Public Schools of Berkeley County. While in high school Glenn was a member of the band, and played the clarinet. He was also a member of the J.V. Basketball team. This all-around "good guy," drove a school bus during his high school days, and was known for his skills in teaching his siblings and friends to swim. Glenn's higher education preparation included training received as a member of the United States Navy. His preparatory instructions were received at the training camp in Orlando, Florida. Following training, and in service to his country, Glenn traveled to more than 25 foreign countries; including the Philippines, and Viet Nam. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he had earned the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Returning home, Glenn furthered his training at Trident Technical College, Charleston, SC, in the area of Management. He was employed by Reliable Electric Company, St. Stephen, SC, as a Production Supervisor, utilizing his expertise to train staff, locally and often traveled on behalf of the company. He retired from Reliable after 20 years of outstanding and dedicated service. Glenn was united in holy wedlock to his high school sweetheart, Cellamena Wilson, on June 4, 1977, in St. Stephen, South Carolina. To this union, three children were born; Quincey; Glendrick; and Tiffanie Theirse. Glenn leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Cellamena Theirse of Pineville, SC; two sons, Quincey (Melanie) Theirse, of Goose Creek, SC and Glendrick Theirse of Pineville, SC; a daughter, Tiffanie Theirse of Spartanburg, SC; three grandchildren, Quincey Cortez, Jr.; Jocelyn Marie, and Nathan Isaac Theirse; a mother, Mrs. Albertha Theirse of Pineville, SC; five siblings, Mr. John (Beatrice) Theirse of Bronx, NY, Mrs. Media Davis of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Laura (Ezekiel) Middleton of Bronx, NY, Mrs. Maxine (Moses) White of St. Stephen, SC, Mrs. Shirley (William) Green of Pineville, SC; Mother-in-law, Mrs. Estelle R. Wilson of St. Stephen, SC; six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Rollerson, Mrs. Margaret (Bernard) Owens, Mrs. Annie Mae (Leon) Milford, Mrs. Barbara (Nathaniel) Milford, Ms. Alyce Wilson, and Mrs. Pansy Theirse; five brothers-in-law, Mr. Robert Rollerson, Mr. James (Alfreda) Wilson, Mr. Woodrow Wilson; Mr. Johnnie Wilson and Mr. Joe (Velma) Wilson; three aunts, Mrs. Rebecca White; Mrs. Dolly Theirse and Mrs. Rebecca Middleton; a godmother, Mrs. Rosalee Wigfall, one god-daughter, Ms. Shawanda Middleton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Glenn was a special individual whose warmth and generosity was felt and seen by all who knew him. He endured, with faith, until the end. He has been given sweet rest by a gracious God. We that are left behind will dearly miss his physical presence, but say to him with love;"sleep on sweet prince, we shall meet again!"
