Guerry Sharad Grant Hickman, the first child and oldest son of Gerry and Maurietta Grant Hickman, was born on September 9, 1987 at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. He departed this life on April 4, 2023 at Lincoln Medical Center in Bronx, New York.
He was affectionately known as Sharad or Ridah among family and friends. Sharad was educated in the Lee, Berkeley, and Dorchester County school systems. In 2005, he graduated and received his diploma from Visions Christian Academy. He later earned a degree in Horticulture from Trident Technical College in 2007.
From the moment his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Parson, met him in the delivery room, Sharad was the LOVE of her life. She lovingly cared for him during his formative years. He attended Good Shepherd Reformed Episcopal Church and St. Michael Reformed Episcopal Church with her, and she made sure he knew the Lord.
Upon becoming a teenager, Sharad received Christ as his personal savior, was baptized, and became a member of Life In Christ Church under the leadership of his grandaunt, Pastor Cynthia Mack Pringle. While a young man in his late twenties, he learned to speak Arabic fluently and took an interest in studying the Quran and Islam.
Like his mother, Sharad was an immensely talented and gifted poet. He was an intellect and had a passion for writing, hip hop and music. After moving to New York where the majority of his paternal family lives, he became a member of BKBX Entertainment. He quickly became a fan favorite because of his boyish good looks, charm, lyrical skills and flawless delivery.
Sharad was full of life, had a smile that lit up his face and was a true friend to many. He was often referred to as the Peacemaker because he didn't like confusion, was a good listener, and always tried to be the problem solver. One of his favorite pastimes was cooking, and he enjoyed creating his own dishes and those he saw on cooking channels.
He loved his family dearly and was always protective of them. His laughter, strong will, compassion and free spirit are already DEEPLY missed.
Precious memories of Sharad will forever be kept in the hearts of his parents, Gerry and Maurietta Grant Hickman; his BELOVED son, Rida Shakur Hickman and his son's mother English Douglas of Ladson, SC; his siblings Amber Ward (Dorian) and Demaurio Grant Hickman, both of Honolulu, Hawaii; his aunts Felisa Grant McDavid (Ray) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Velma Jean Bennett of Saint Stephen, SC; his uncle, Teddy Brown of Nashville, TN; grandfathers, Curtis Thomas and Robert Mickel of New York, NY; godmother, Jamesetta Reid of Moncks Corner, SC; granduncles, Gabriel Mack of Charleston, SC, Bernard Hickman (Odessa), Earl Hickman (Desne), Carroll Hickman (Direne) all of New York, and Leon Hickman of Columbia, SC; grandaunts, Pastor Cynthia Mack Pringle of Charleston, SC and Linda Hickman of Bishopville, SC; nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
Sharad's maternal grandmother, Evelyn Mack Grant Parson; paternal grandmother, Doris Hickman Thomas; maternal great-grandmother, John Etta McMillan Grant Cauthen; and maternal uncle, Maurice Parson, preceded him in death.
