Obituary

Harris "Bub" McHoney, Sr., the son of the late Christopher McHoney and Hattie Washington McHoney, was born December 8, 1924, and entered into eternal rest on March 2, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family. Brother McHoney was educated in the Berkeley County Public School System. He was employed at the South Carolina State Ports Authority and retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was a faithful member of Greater St. Mark A.M.E. Church, Bonneau, South Carolina, where he served as a member until his illness. Brother McHoney was united in Holy Matrimony on January 26, 1947 to Sally Nelson of Bonneau, South Carolina. This union was blessed with seven children. One son, Willie James McHoney, preceded him in death . Brother McHoney was a quiet and humble man who demonstrated his strength in the way he dedicated his life to his family. He leaves to cherish loving memories: his loving and devoted wife, Sally Nelson McHoney of Bonneau, South Carolina; two daughters and four sons: Shirley (Bobbie) Pough of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Annie (John-Deceased) Wright of Bonneau, South Carolina, Harris (Mary) McHoney, Jr. of Bonneau, South Carolina, Johnnie (Shirley) McHoney of Bronx, New York, Robert (Barbara) McHoney of Bonneau, South Carolina and Christopher McHoney of Bonneau, South Carolina; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Brother McHoney will be greatly missed by all who knew him. ******************************************************************************** You Were Always There Our Dearest "Uncle Bub" When we lost our Mama and Daddy and the world just seemed so grim -- dear Uncle you were there. When we lost our sisters and our big brother -- without question dear Uncle you were there. When David, Buck, Annie, Mary and Chris were all called Home first -- dear Uncle you were there. You were there to comfort and console us -- and to treat us as your own. You were there to lead us strong in family -- and remind us that we were not alone. You were there to lend a kind word and to remind us of the Lord. You and Auntie Sal taught us to always lean on God's words. You became the father of our clan; the family patriarch we could look up to. And now with sad eyes and very heavy hearts we say our farewell to you. But we know without a doubt that we will feel you in the air; for just as you always were we know that your guiding Spirit will ALWAYS be there. Lovingly submitted in sorrow, your nieces and nephews: Shug, Roy, Joe, Bobby, Julius, Mena, Tony, and all of your grand nieces and nephews.
