Hattie Mae Singleton Terry, affectionately known as Mae, was born in Moncks Corner, SC, on December 5, 1944. She was a daughter of the late Beatrice and Edward Singleton. She was called home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2024, at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health in Orangeburg, SC.
Hattie was educated in the Berkeley County Public School System. Hattie was united in marriage on July 23, 1967, to Johnie L. Terry. To this union, two children were born.
Hattie had a passion for cooking, flower gardening and vegetable gardening. She was known for her sweet potato pies and her macaroni and cheese.
Hattie grew up in a household with thirteen siblings, eleven of her siblings preceded her in death.
Hattie leaves behind to always and forever cherish her memories: her loving husband of 57 years, Johnie L. Terry of Orangeburg, SC; two daughters, Johnnie Mae Terry of Salem, MA and Rose (Dennis) White of Eutawville, SC; adopted daughter, Keisha F. of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Samantha (Javon) Jones of Goose Creek, SC, Tiffany (Danny) Burden of Columbia, SC, Andrew (Shameka) Terry of Salem, MA, Teresina Weaver of Salem, MA, Asher White and Ja'Quez White of Eutawville, SC; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Peyton, Tarrence, Aubrey, Carter and Christian; two sisters, Catherine Blakeley and Alma Singleton; and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at O. Allen Gethers Jr. Memorial Chapel, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will be in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no public viewing on Friday.
