"Wildman" Mckelvey
August 25, 1955 – July 18, 2022
Henry Ivan McKelvey was born on August 25, 1955 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, to Henry and Sulie McCants McKelvey. Henry, affectionately called Ivan by family and friends, departed this life at Agape Hospice Group on Monday, July 18, 2022.
Ivan was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County and was a graduate of St. Stephen High School Class of 1973. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army from 1974 to 1977. He also attended Williamsburg Technical College. Upon entering the workforce, he did various carpentry work. He then became employed by Reliable Electric until they closed. He later was employed with H&W Construction as an iron worker, traveling from state to state. He also worked with H&S Construction as a Transformer Maintenance Worker until he became disabled.
Ivan accepted Christ at an early age. He became a member of Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.
Ivan met and married Darlene Prioleau on July 7, 1984. To this union two children were born, Keri and Jalesa McKelvey.
Ivan enjoyed various activities such as fishing, gardening, hunting and cooking. He loved watching the cooking and fishing channels.
Those left to cherish his precious memories are: his wife, Darlene McKelvey of the home; children, Terry Davis of Summerville, SC, Keri McKelvey and Jalesa McKelvey both of Columbia, SC; stepson, Jacquez (Kimberly) Prioleau of Alvin, SC; mother, Sulie McKelvey of Moncks Corner, SC; sisters, Machelle McKelvey of White Plains, NY and Yolanda June of Charleston, SC; Leon Maxwell, who was raised as a brother, of Charleston, SC; special niece reared in the home, Winter Swinton (Kendrick) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren, Teranae Davis, DeAundre Watson, Jacquez Prioleau, Jr. and Zion Prioleau; great-grand, Nova Grace Doctor; aunt, Naomi McKelvey; sister-in-law Lydia (Daniel) Kinlaw; brothers-in-law, Benjamin Prioleau III, Samuel Prioleau and Theaudis (Shannon) Prioleau; special friend and caregiver, Cleophus Mobley who was with him every step of the way; special friends, Alexander Snipe, Gregory Perkins, Maurice Cuttino, March James, Gregory Newton, Steve Bellflower and Joe Brunson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry McKelvey and grandson, Hasani Davis.
Viewing will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Gethers St. Stephen Chapel, 221 Church Road, St. Stephen, SC. Face masks are required. Graveside service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at Old Field Cemetery, St. Stephen, SC.
