IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isabel G.
Lewis
May 10, 1925 – November 2, 2019
" I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith ". Timothy 4:7
A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is stilled.
A place is vacant in our hearts, which never can be filled.
And after a lonely heartache and many a silent tear,
There will always be beautiful memories in our hearts of one we love so dear.
Isabel Lewis was born on May 10, 1925 in Jamestown, South Carolina to Emma Stuard and Andrew Hawkins. Isabel began her early education in the Berkeley County Public School System in Jamestown, South Carolina. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York to live with her late sister, Naomi Hawkins and began working at Trien Manufacturing Company. It was there that she met her late husband of 54 years, William Lewis.
On September 3, 1947, Isabel was joined in holy matrimony to Willie Lewis. Their union was blessed with three children, and they resided in Bronx, New York. In 1959, Isabel and her family moved to Jamaica, Queens and she continued to work at Trien Manufacturing Company for many years. During this time she became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, then transitioned to Salem Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she served faithfully.
Upon her retirement in 1987, she and her husband migrated south to Alvin, South Carolina. She became a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church where she served in various capacities, including: Junior Usher Advisor, Kitchen Committee Member, Missionary Board Member and a member of Shalom and Children's Choir.
After leaving their grandchildren and great-grandchildren to reside in New York, Isabel and William fell in love with three beautiful children and in their hearts adopted Ramona, Roger and Darius Green.
On November 2, 2019 at Lake Moultrie Nursing Home, St. Stephen, South Carolina, Isabel heard the voice of Jesus call her name, and she answered the call to enter peacefully into eternal rest.
Isabel was preceded in death by: her husband "Willie", her son Willie Jr., along with her parents and five siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Mamie Bailey and Gloria Lewis of New York; a beloved brother John Eddie Hawkins of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Rev. Evelyn Drayton of New York; one sister-in-law, Patricia of Brooklyn, New York; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Lewis of Augusta, GA; seven grandchildren: Margo, James Jr. and Rodrick Bailey, Terence and Adrienne Lewis, Leon and Shavone Cunningham; fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a traveling companion and friend, Dorothy Prioleau of Alvin, SC; a loving and devoted caregiver, Tammy Prioleau-Smith of Alvin, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
