Obituary

Mrs. IsaDora "Dora" Wallace Simmons was born on September 18, 1922, at the family home in the 41 Community, St. Stephen, SC, a daughter of the late Julius and the late Ethel Snipe Wallace. Her beloved stepmother, the late Everlena Snipe Wallace, raised her from an early age.  She departed this life on September 17, 2017, at home following a brief illness.

Dora was educated at the St. Stephen Colored School, where she excelled as a student, finishing at the top of her class.  Because of her gift with words, she was often invited to write for or speak at church gatherings and community events.  She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist church where she served on the Usher Board and attended faithfully until only a few weeks before her passing. " Sis ", as she was affectionately known, was a school bus driver for over 20 years.  She often told stories of the children who rode her bus. Ms. Dora loved to fish, grow flowers in her yard, read, write, watch game shows, talk and laugh with family and friends while sitting on her back porch.

IsaDora was united in holy matrimony to George Allen Simmons in 1945. Their union was blessed with eight children.  Her husband and three sons, Kerry, Lawrence and Eddie, preceded her to the grave.

Those left to cherish memories of her love, laughter and many unique sayings and wise words are:  three loving sons, Alex Alphonsa (Deloris), George Jr. (Naomi), Herman (Emma); two devoted daughters, Ethel "Marilyn" (Gregory) Rollerson and Graziella "Reatha" Sumpter Simmons; Nathaniel Sumpter, a special son-in-law; one sister, Jenevelle (Jack) Butler; two nieces, Ella (Ceasar) Richburg and Ernestine (Nathan) Frazier.

Dora would thank God every day for her greatest blessing—living long enough to see thirty-four grandchildren (thirteen grandchildren-in-law); sixty-four great grandchildren and one great-great grandson added to her family. She had a special way of making each one feel like the favorite. They will surely miss coming home to see " Granny Sis ". She also leaves a host of grandnieces, grandnephews and special cousins to remember her giving and gracious spirit. Her friends and acquaintances of all ages are too numerous to count because she never met a stranger.

IsaDora "Sis" Wallace Simmons lived a life devoted to God and prayer, the care of people and abiding love for her family.  Hers was a life well lived.
