Iva Bell Washington Hawkins, the daughter of the late Edward and Elmer Washington, was born on May 6, 1927 in Jamestown, South Carolina. Bell was educated in the Berkeley County Public School System. At an early age, Bell became a member of Liberty Reformed Episcopal Church where she was a lifelong member. She worked faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. She also was President of the Church Missionary Society for many years and was a member of the Family Day Committee. Bell was employed by Jamestown Wool Company and Guerry Dry Cleaners. Bell was united in Holy Matrimony to Alton Hawkins on December 20, 1950. This union was blessed with eight children. Her husband, Alton Hawkins, Sr.; son, Arnold Hawkins; granddaughter, Victoria Hawkins; and six siblings, preceded Bell in death. On Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 3:04 a.m., Bell heard the call from the angels and went home to be with the Lord. She will forever be remembered by: her children, Ella Middleton, Linda Morgan, Alton (Wilhemena) Hawkins, Jr., Pamela Hawkins, Sharon (Eddie) Mazyck, Victor Hawkins and Lisa (Stepheny) Beauford; nineteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Freedonia Hawkins and Earlene Hawkins; one brother-in-law, Calvin Beauford; one sister-in-law, Shirley Washington; special friends, Mary Beauford and Ella Liferidge; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
