IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacob
Gilyard
June 22, 1942 – June 20, 2018
A time to be Born: On June 22, 1942, Frank and Ida Guinyard, was blessed with their first born, son Jacob "Jake" Gilyard in Orangeburg, SC.
A time to Live: Early in life, Jake relocated to Brooklyn, NY to help provide for his family back home. There he met and married his queen, Rosalee Jamison. In the union Sandra and Tisha were born.
To know him was to love him. Jake was down to earth and he never met a stranger. He was devoted to all of his children and grandchildren. All of them knew that they could always count on him. Jake was the old school kind of man. He provided for his family and believed that no matter who did what, he was going to do the most. Many of his friends and family looked forward to the yearly trips that he would make down south to make sure that the family was ok. He went to great lengths to make sure the younger generation and the older generation knew each other. Jake believe this kept the family strong.
In this last year of his life he was defiant. Refusing to give in to his age, was considered by the grands as a "cool dude." This man was the definition of what a husband, father, and grandfather should be.
From 1974 until he retired in 2017, he was a dedicated worker for Public Service Truck Renting in Long Island City, NY. He was very proud of his position. It was very important that he, "stuck the tanks". It was so important to him that he went to work while suffering with the flu. Jacob's work ethic was strong and he passed that down to his children.
He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and most of all a Child of God.
A time to Die: On June 20, 2018, King Jake exercised his right of passage as a believer to go home to be with the Lord.
A time to Mourn: He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife, Rosalee Gilyard; four sons, Bernard (Tanya) Guinyard of Queens, NY; Kenny (Lakeya) Hillard, of Minnesota; Jacob Ginyard, of Rosedale, NY; Alexander (Teresa) Ginyard, of Columbia, SC; four daughters, Margaret (Michael "Mike") Daniels; of Maryland; Sandra Gilyard, of Moncks Corner, SC; Latasha (Tyrone) Bradley-Mose, of Maryland and Tatisha (Jaron) Butler, of Queens, NY: twenty-one grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Albert (Vivian) Guinyard and Johnny Lee Guinyard of Cordova, SC; one foster brother, Ernest (Mary) Frazier; of New York; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
