Jacob Jerome Pou, known as "Jake", was born November 11, 1953, in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late OB Pou, Sr. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Smith Pou. Jake received his golden wings Friday morning, August 3, 2012, as he entered into eternal rest at the Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. At an early age, he joined Mitten Lane Holiness Church. Jacob was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. After completing high school in 1974, he moved to New York and began working as a Truck Driver for his uncle, Thomas Pou, at the Pou's Supermarket on 410 Lenox Avenue, New York. Jacob later became employed with the Mercury Engraving and Printing Company as a Professional Engraver in Manhattan, New York. Jacob was united in Holy Matrimony to Patricia Elcock. This union was blessed with one child. Jacob returned to South Carolina in 1981 and lived in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was employed with the Town of Sullivan's Island Water and Sewer as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. He retired due to his illness. Preceding him into Glory were: one sister, Janice Smith Pou; and four brothers, Henry Clay Brown, Thomas Pou, OB Pou, Jr. and Isaiah Pou. Jacob leaves as a testament of his enduring legacy to continue the family assignment in the earth: his mother, Lizzie Pou; his wife, Patricia Pou; his daughters, Contessa Pou of Manhattan, NY, Marthesha Pou, Mavis Manigault, and Mona Smith of all of Charleston, SC; his sons, Brandon (Kira) Drayton and Maurice Manigault both of Charleston, SC; six brothers: Walter Pou (Brenda) of Virginia, Jetsine Pou (Geraldine), David Pou (Yvonne), Paul Pou (Yvette), Little John Pou (Tonya) all of Moncks Corner, SC; and Peter Pou (Arlena) of Atlanta, GA; four sisters: Annie Lee Simmons (Envie), Hannah P. McCoy-Starkes (Birdell), Mary Pou, and Lizzie Mae Fennick (Maurice) all of Moncks Corner, SC; thirteen grandchildren: Tansia, Antwain, Demar, Kaine, Kyla, Karece, Jamari, Tynasia, Nazya, Emmie, Brandon, Ricardo, and Varian; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Pou and Linda Pou; and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; cousins, and other relatives and friends.
