James J. Lloyd, son of the late Jesse Berkeley Lloyd and Rachel Washington Lloyd, was born January 14, 1922, in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He departed this life Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 8:30 a.m., at his residence in Pineville, SC. James received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was self-employed in various occupations such as: a bus driver, used car salesman, and car repairman. At an early age, James accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church, Pineville, SC, where he served faithfully until his death. He was a Sunday School scholar and a member of the Redeemer Male Choir. James was a prayerful man. His favorite quote was: "Don't you worry to pray, I'll pray for you." James was married to the late Lucinda Judge Lloyd. This union was blessed with seven children. James was a legend and touched many lives. He was always willing to help others. He enjoyed serving his community by providing bus transportation to various places, especially, Myrtle Beach, SC. He will be missed. Those who will cherish his memory are: his children, Susanne Gourdine (Abraham) of St. Stephen, SC, Jerome Lloyd of New York, Mary Lloyd James (David) of New York, Jonathan Lloyd (Lorenza) of Utica, NY, Samuel Lloyd (Juliet) of Darlington, SC, Reverend Chucky A. Lloyd (Mary Ruth) of Pineville, SC and James Enoch "LL" Lloyd (Leona) of Alvin, SC; his sister, Lucy Lloyd Jefferson (William) of St. Stephen, SC; 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren; dear friends, Serena Benekin and "Shing" Toomer; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
