IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey Fernwell
Simmons
January 17, 1977 – November 29, 2017
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. - John 13:34
Mr. Jeffrey Fernwell Simmons, was born during a snow storm on January 17, 1977 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the younger of two children born to Fernwell and Ferndena W. Simmons. On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, early in the morning, a merciful God sent his angel and he peacefully went home to be with the Lord. His sister, Laura Dawnelle McClam preceded him in death.
Jay, as he was affectionately called, was a 1996 graduate of Goose Creek High School. For a time, he was employed by the International Longshoreman Association.
At an early age, he joined Greater St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church where he was a member of the Church School Department and the Young People's Division. In his later years, he attended church periodically and each time he was there, he was the first to the altar for prayer.
Jay was a sweet young man with a good heart. Growing up you could always count on him to tell the truth. His life was about love - he loved his family, he loved the people in the community and in his own way he loved the Lord. There was nothing he would not do for anyone if it was in his power. And so, he lived his life the way he wanted to.
On Wednesday morning, there is no doubt he said, "This world is not my home, I'm only a stranger passing through. The angel's keep beckoning me; I can't be at peace in the world any more."
A loving son, uncle and friend, he leaves to celebrate his memories: his devoted parents, Mr. Fernwell and Mrs. Ferndena W. Simmons; his sister, Mrs. Michelle Weathers all of Moncks Corner, SC; a devoted niece, Miss Sherita McClam of Charleston, SC; three other nieces; one nephew; nine aunts; eight uncles; one granduncle; and a host of other relatives and friends.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." - John 13:35
