Jeremiah Green, the son of the late Jacob and Elsie Vince Green, was born on February 13, 1928 in Shulerville, South Carolina. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at his residence.
Jeremiah was educated in the Berkeley County School System. He received his Bachelor's degree from Allen University and his Master's degree from South Carolina State University. He continued his education by completing post graduate studies at The Citadel and Atlanta University .
Jeremiah was united in Holy Matrimony to Annabell Addison in 1966. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage. This union was blessed with two beautiful children.
Jeremiah accepted Christ at an early age during a revival service at Jehovah Holiness Church. He was a lifetime member of Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served faithfully in the following capacities: Class Leader, Steward, Church Clerk, Sunday School teacher, Lay President and Male Choir member. He was very instrumental in acquiring the property where Wesley AME Church presently stands. He also served on the Conference level as the Lay Parliamentarian .
Jeremiah's professional career in the field of education flourished over 40 years in the Berkeley County School System. The positions held were that of: teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal and principal. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, bowling and spending time with family and friends.
Jeremiah was an integral part of his community serving as Chairman of the Shulerville/Honey Hill Fire Department and as Deputy Coroner for Berkeley County. His caring spirit and generosity touched the lives of many in his community.
Jeremiah rendered over 60 years in civic service which included his membership in the Iota Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Jamestown Lodge #226, Free and Accepted Masons, where he served as a Past Master.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Annabell Addison Green; children, Antoinette (Maurice) Jones and Kenneth (Tanya) Green; one sister, Elma Green Davis; grandchildren, Asha and Ben "BJ"; two stepgrandchildren, Angel and Donald; one brother-in-law, Rev. David (Maybelle) Addison; three sisters-in-law, Isabell Anderson, Iva Mae Armstrong and Elease Addison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends .
