Jerome (Polly) Goodman, Sr., son of the late Hessie and Ethelree Goodman, was born on August 1, 1954 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 5:00 A.M. at his residence. He was educated in the Berkeley County School System. Polly joined Emmanuel Reformed Episcopal Church at an early age. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary Branch Goodman. To this union, five children were born; two preceded him in death: a son, Jerome Goodman, Jr. and a daughter, Lazinia Goodman. Polly had a God-gift for music. He loved to play his organ and guitar. He also loved to be outdoors and drive his tractor around. Polly was a people person and never met a stranger. He was employed at Queen City, Santee River Wool and Carolina Nursery. In 2007, he became self-employed at Little House Variety in Alvin, SC. Polly had a favorite song that he would listen to and sing all the time, "I Come Along Way, The Lord Has Brought Me" by F.C. Barnes. Polly leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and caring wife, Mary M. Goodman of Alvin, SC; four daughters, Felicia, Lasonia and Deelanda Goodman all of Alvin, SC and Betty Lee Shaw of Altomat Springs, FL; eight grandchildren, LaKaysha A. Dawson, Tevin K. Goodman, Teviya K. Goodman and Tamayra K. Goodman all of Alvin, SC, Alton J. Taylor, Amaris D. Shaw, Avien T. Shaw and Marvell J. Jones, Jr. all of Altomat Springs, FL; one sister, Helen (Leroy) Dingle of Moncks Corner, SC; two brothers, Allen Goodman of James Island, SC and Clifton Goodman of North Charleston, SC; one uncle, Arthur Williams of Baltimore, MD; three aunts, Lillie Ruth Grice, Mary Beauford and Pearlie Mae Gethers; four brothers-in-law; six nephews; four nieces; a host of cousins and friends.
