Joe Louis
McCray
February 26, 1937 – April 21, 2026
Gethers Funeral Home
4:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Mr. Joe Louis McCray of Goose Creek, South Carolina, who entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Mr. McCray was a devoted servant, a man of deep faith, and a proud veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Navy, retiring after years of dedicated service, including during the Vietnam War. His commitment to service extended beyond the military into his spiritual life, where he faithfully served as Head Elder at several Seventh-day Adventist churches in New Jersey. Most recently, he continued his ministry as Head Elder at St. Stephen Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Stephen, South Carolina.
A lifelong learner, Mr. McCray found great joy in reading, with the Bible holding a special place in his heart. He also had a love for music and could often be found playing his guitar. Known for his warm spirit and joyful laughter, he cherished time spent with his family, who meant the world to him. Professionally, he also served as a program analyst with the federal government, leaving a legacy of diligence and excellence.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Madelyn McCray.
Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of love include his children, Kevin Jose McCray (Charity) and Tracey Bonita McCray; his siblings, Dorothy McCray Barnes, Samuel McCray (Rosa), Isaac McCray (Rose), Mary Ann Sumpter (Willie), and Debra McCray Palmer; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gethers Funeral Home, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held in New Jersey, with details to be announced at a later time.
We humbly ask that you keep the McCray family lifted in prayer and surround them with love and support during this time of remembrance.
