IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Henry
"Greasy" Brown
January 30, 1953 – August 5, 2023
John Henry Brown, better known as Greasy, was born on January 30, 1943, in Moncks Corner, SC. He was the sixth child of Johnson and Louise Brown. John died at his home on August 5, 2023.
John attended Berkeley County public schools. He eventually moved to New York City where he lived and worked for many years. In New York, he was employed by United Cerebral Palsy of New York City. He worked for Daniel Construction Lawn Service when he returned to South Carolina.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson Brown and Louise Bryant; and brothers, Harry Lee Brown and Robert Lee Reid.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, John Brown, Jr., better known as JJ, of Pennsylvania; and a daughter, Alfredia Louise Brown of New York. He has three grandchildren, Janaya Brown, Pasha Moss and Tyshawn Brown. He will be missed dearly by his siblings, Isadora Rollerson of Bonneau, SC, Anna Levey (Earl), Matthew (Mack) Brown, Larry (Buddy) Brown and Alfredia Brown, all of Moncks Corner, SC. He will be fondly remembered by his aunt, Ruthanne Brown. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Greasy was cool. He was quiet and reserved but when he chose to speak, it was deliberate. He was also quite the comedian! He loved to laugh and when he got started, he would have everyone around sidesplitting laughter. He was hilarious! He jokingly gave himself the alias Abdul Wahid Muhammad Shabazz. The joking and laughter are what those who loved him will miss the most!
