John Henry Middleton, Sr. was born on December 28, 1937 in Moncks Corner, SC to Mr. Benjamin Middleton and Mrs. Rosalea Coad Middleton. He transitioned into eternal life with the Lord on March 22, 2023 at his home.
John received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County. He was a 1957 graduate of Berkeley Training High School, Moncks Corner, SC. He was employed as a Mechanic with the Berkeley County School District and served diligently. He retired after years of dedicated service.
John was joined in marriage to Conalee Manigault on June 10, 1959. They were blessed with four children: John Jr., Curtis, Darryl Lee, and Latoya. Conalee M. Middleton preceded him in death on July 8, 1997.
John later was joined in matrimony to Dorothy Ann Prioleau Reed on February 14, 2002, where they began their lives together in St. Stephen, SC.
John accepted Jesus as his Savior at an early age. He was a member of Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, Moncks Corner SC. John served faithfully in several ministries until his health began to decline. He attended Sunday School, sang with the Male Choir and the Senior Choir, and served as a Trustee. He was also an active member of Moncks Corner Lodge #323.
John enjoyed being with family and taking care of his home. He loved fishing, planting his garden, singing, family gatherings, his church, and most of all God. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kindness, and his unwavering faith in God.
John leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife, Dorothy A. Middleton; children, John Middleton Jr. of Moncks Corner, SC, Curtis Middleton of Moncks Corner, SC, Darry Lee Middleton of Moncks Corner, SC, Latoya Lewis (ReZsaun) of Summerville, SC, Alonzo Reed (Melissa) of Greenville, SC, Faye Brown of Charleston SC, Shanacqua Fant (Kenneth) of Columbia, SC, Jamaal Reed of Charlotte, NC; loving brother, Moses Middleton (Levonia) of Moncks Corner SC; loving sister; Claretha Taylor of St. Stephen, SC; sister-in-law, Barbara Manigault of Lawrenceville, GA; brother-in-law, Isaac Prioleau (Sarah) of Columbia SC, 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Rosalea Middleton; mother-in-law, Mary Maggie Prioleau; sister; Violet Middleton; brother, Richard Allen Manigault, and Step Son; Illya Ernie Reed.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, Bethel A.M.E. Church, Columbia SC, the Staff of Agape Hospice HealthCare, and Gethers Funeral Home Inc. for the wonderful services, love, and support they have provided for Mr. John Henry Middleton and his family.
A Home Going Celebration will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Carmel AME Church, 1059 Old Black Road, Moncks Corner, SC. Interment will be in the church's cemetery. Viewing will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home (Moncks Corner). Face masks are required.
