Obituary

John Lawrence "Bubba" Middleton Sr., son of the late Christopher and Elouise Middleton and stepson of the late Annie Middleton, was born on July 2, 1927 in Bonneau, South Carolina. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 12, 2018 at his residence.

John was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County.

He was a member of Greater St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he attended faithfully until his death. John has a devoted relationship and utmost respect for his spiritual mentors and friends, Rev. Jacob and Sis. Jattie Smith.

John served in the United States Army as a Corporal during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medical along with the Occupational Medal Japan.

On April 20, 1957, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Catherine Middleton. This union was blessed with seven children. His wife and two children preceded him in death.

John was employed at a Motor Vehicle Operator at the Naval Weapons Station where he retired on September 3, 1990, after 35 years and 2 month of faithful service.

A brother, William Middleton and a sister, Susan Nelson preceded him in death.

John leaves to cherish his memories: his loving children, Ms. Lauretta Middleton, Mr. John Middleton, Jr., Mr. David Middleton, Mrs. Mary (Roger) Blanding and Mrs. Lucille (Alphonso) Walker; two nephews whom he raised as his own, Willie Joe (Willie Mae) Palmer and Kenneth (Sonya) Palmer; a special cousin who he also raised as his own, Joann Starks; sixteen special grandchildren; twenty-six special great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Middleton and Carrie Ricketts both of Philadelphia, PA, Dorothy White of Summerville, SC and Mary Sue Seaward of Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Middleton of Charleston, SC and Annie Bennett of Bonneau, SC; special cousins, Sinobia Gilliard, Julius, Bobby, Joe and Wilhelmina Middleton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom he loved.
