John Collier Sumpter, the fourth child of Earnestine Joyner Sumpter and John Sumpter, was born December 9, 1972 in Charleston, South Carolina. On March 23, 2014, at his home, John was called to eternal rest. John received his education in the Berkeley County public schools. "Big Sump", as he was known, was a 1991 graduate of Berkeley High School, Moncks Corner, SC. He was employed with Star Ready Mix for two years. While at Berkeley High School, "Big Sump" excelled in sports. He was a member of the varsity football team (#43) and was a member of the wrestling team. John was a true athlete. Even after high school, he continued to be faithful about exercising and promoting healthy eating. John was a unique individual. His strong will and determination to get his point across always set him apart from the rest. He was one of the most diplomatic persons one could meet, as long as you agreed with him. It has been said that, "Those who knew John, no explanation needed; those that did not know John, no explanation can possibly be given." John will be remembered by family, friends and acquaintances for his great sense of humor and overflowing generosity. He will be dearly missed by everyone with whom he has interacted with. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving daughters, Jhna Williams and Jon Niya Williams-Sumpter; companion, Latash Williams; siblings, Reggie Joyner (Sandra), Jamal Sumpter and Felicia Sumpter; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
