September 12, 1940 – August 22, 2021
Johnie James Savage, son of the late Herbert Savage and Annie Rollerson Savage, was born on September 12, 1940 in Bonneau, South Carolina. Johnie departed this life on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Trident Medical Center, North Charleston, SC.
Johnie received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC. He was employed as a Mechanic/Machinist by trade from where he retired. He continued using his talent by later opening his own mechanic shop where he enjoyed repairing cars.
Johnie accepted Christ and became a member of St. Peters AME Church, Bonneau, SC. He served faithfully in several ways, particularly playing the guitar for the choir and doing whatever he was called upon to do. His favorite book was the Bible and his favorite song was "I'm Coming Lord."
Johnie was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Frances Duggan Savage in 1992. She preceded him in death.
Johnie was a very loving soul. His favorite place was church and being outside. His hobbies were playing music on the guitar and repairing cars.
Johnie leaves to cherish precious memories: his eleven children, Joan Gambrell, John Henry Savage (Eileen), Rickie Alfonzo Benjamin Savage, Sylvia Washington (Pastor Alexander) all of South Carolina, Sylvia Croker of New York, Marilyn Elizabeth Wilson of South Carolina, Gwendolyn Rhoss, Debra Savage, Craig Savage (Pamela Hinnant) all of New York, Tracy Savage (Faye) of Virginia and Trevor Savage (Anna) of South Carolina; one brother, Herbert Savage; one sister, Dorothy Winns; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Johnie was preceded in death by: his son, Joe Savage; five siblings, Elease S. Washington, Maydie Middleton, Annie Mae Wright, Robert Savage, Freddie Savage and Henry Dean Savage; and one grandson, Preston Savage.
Viewing will be held Friday, August 27, 2021, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home (Moncks Corner). FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021, 12:00 p.m., at St. Peters AME Church Cemetery, 1299 Mendel Rivers Road, Bonneau, SC. Please wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
