Joseph Borden, Sr., beloved son of the late Charles Borden and Eva Collins Borden, was born on December 17, 1935 in Cordesville, South Carolina. He was reared by the late Sadie Borden. On Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Joseph was called home to be with his Lord. Joseph attended the pubic schools of Berkeley County. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served for four years. Later he worked at the Gates Rubber Company for twenty-five years. He became a member of Irving Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age, where he served on the Steward and Trustee Boards. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Thelma G. Harney. Joseph was an active person who loved fishing and collecting copper, metal and cans. He will be missed by all. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Thelma G. Borden; a son, Joseph Borden, Jr.; three daughters, Loretta Nesmith (Mark), Inger Borden and Cheryl Borden; two grandchildren, Mark Nesmith, Jr. and Kayla Nesmith; two sisters, Georgianna Lloyd and Marie Edmead; two sisters-in-law, Irene Pinckney (Nathel) and Elizabeth Young; two brothers-in-law, James Harney and Joseph Harney (Della); a mother-in-law, Thelma Harney; two aunts-in-law, Elease Ladson and Ernestine Mitchell; two special cousins, Grace Grant and Janette Mack; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
