Mr. Joseph "Joe" Elijah Coad, son of the late Mr. Willie Coad and the late Mrs. Carrie Wright Coad, was born September 11, 1941 in the Santee Circle community of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. On the night of Thursday, October 10, 2024, Joe passed away peacefully into eternal rest.

On April 16, 1960, Joe was joined in holy matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Althia Gillians, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship.

Joe completed his education in the Berkeley County school system, earning his high school diploma in 1959. Joe continued to advance his education and skills at Trident Technical College, where he received several certifications in various chemical specialties. After 30 years of dedicated service in a supervisory role at Bayer Corporation, he retired in 2001.

Joe leaves to cherish his fond memory: his wife, Mrs. Althia Gillians Coad; four children: Mr. Kevin Elijah Coad of Moncks Corner, SC; Mrs. Karen Coad-Rogers (Frank) of Central Islip, NY; Mrs. Kimberly Coad-Ascue (Rodney) of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Mrs. Katrina Coad-Wood (Rudy) of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren: JaRod Ascue, of Charleston, SC; Kiana Rogers, of Central Islip, NY; Jhalen Ascue, of Washington, DC; Britne Rogers, of San Francisco, CA; Chase Wood, of Charleston, SC; and Colin Wood of Summerville, SC; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Mae Coad-Whitfield of Moncks Corner, SC; four sisters-in-law: Mrs. Hattie Coad, of Moncks Corner, SC; Mrs. Rebecca Atterberry, of Denmark, SC, Mrs. Bernice Walker (Odell) of Summerville, SC and Mrs. Birdie Mae Gillians of Bamberg, SC; three brothers-in-law: Mr. Isaac Gillians (Eleanor) of Summerville, SC; Mr. Thomas Gillians, of Moncks Corner, SC, and Mr. Jessie Gillians, Jr. of Moncks Corner, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As we bid farewell to Joe, let us carry forward the love and laughter he brought into our lives. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live forever in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment and hold tight to the bonds of family.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at O. Allen Gethers Jr. Memorial Chapel, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will be in Anderson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at their residence daily from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In consideration of the health and safety of all, they kindly request that face masks be worn while visiting.
