Joseph Jerome Nelson, son of the late Joseph Nelson and Sadie Washington Nelson, was born on October 26, 1958 in Bonneau, South Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his residence. "Baby Joe", as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. He was employed as an Equipment Operator at Santee Cooper for 28 years. At an early age, Joseph attended Mt. Carmel AME Church. Joseph was united in Holy Matrimony to Alice Yevonne Winns on April 3, 1993. This union was blessed with three sons. Joseph was a quiet person who loved his family. His hobbies included fishing and gardening. He also loved being outdoors. He enjoyed sports and was a diehard Washington Redskins fan. Joseph will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Alice Y. Nelson of Bonneau, SC; three sons, Kevin Jerome Nelson, Joseph Jermaine Nelson and Derek Bradford (Darlene) all of Bonneau, SC; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Winns of Bonneau, SC; one uncle, David (Elease) Washington, Sr. of Bonneau, SC; three aunts, Sally McHoney, Susan Nelson both of Bonneau, SC and Estelle Glover of Charleston, SC; special cousins, Willa Grant of Boston, MA, Delores (Rev. James) Frost and David (Melonese) Washington all of Bonneau, SC; four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
