Joseph Smith,

Joseph A. Smith, Jr. was born December 18, 1925 to the late Joseph Smith, Sr. and Ethel E. Simmons. He grew up in the community of Longridge, Moncks Corner, SC. He transitioned this life on Thursday, September 24, 2021 at his residence.
Joseph was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, SC. He was drafted into the United States military at the age of 18 and entered into the United States Army as a Private First Class. He served as a Guard Patrolman, Vehicle Operator, Rifleman, Armorer, and Sharp Shooter. He maintained Law and Order and enforced rules and regulations in maintaining proper working cooperation among prisoners. He participated in one major battle against the enemy. He was released from the Army with an Honorable Discharge on May 25, 1946.
Joseph was united in Holy Matrimony on December 22, 1946 to Annie L. Mazyck. Their union was blessed with five children.
At an early age, Joseph became a member of Greater St. James A.M.E. Church where he served and worshipped as a faithful member. He served on the Steward Board and was a Class Leader for Class Number 12 until his health began to decline.
Those left to cherish his fond memories of Brother Joseph Smith's life are: his daughters, Isabell Richardson of New York, Bennie J. Simmons, Annie Hatcher and Barbara Smith of Summerville, SC; his son, Hadden Smith (Knocola); his brother, Hezekiah Smith (Lillian) of Washington, DC; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Julie Mazyck and Mattie Mazyck; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Face masks are required. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021, 12:00 p.m., at Greater St. James AME Church, 1831 Jedburg Road, Summerville, SC, with viewing from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Please wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
