To the one who bears the sweetest name and add luster to the same. A beautiful life for there is no other who could take the place of our dear loved one.
Mr. Joseph Bennett, Sr., son of the late Sanko and Bertha Johnson Bennett, was born on May 3, 1923 in Berkeley County, South Carolina. He departed this life on April 13, 2016 at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.
Joseph attended the public schools of Berkeley County. He attended St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age. He was employed at South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) for 32 years. He retired in June 1985.
Joseph was united in Holy Matrimony to Annie Palmer on January 28, 1948. This union was blessed with twelve children. One son, James Bennett, preceded him in death.
Joseph, affectionately called Joe, had favorite TV shows such as Judge Judy, Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith and Sanford & Son.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his loving and devoted wife, Annie P. Bennett of the home; six sons, Willie Joe (Willie Mae) Palmer, Joseph Jr. (Elouise) Bennett, Leroy Bennett and Albert Bennett all of Bonneau, SC, Walter (Patrice) Bennett of Jacksonville, FL and Nathaniel Bennett of Gastonia, NC; five daughters, Bertha (James) Wright, Mary (Harris Jr.-deceased) McHoney, Annie Ruth (Michael) Bowens and Rhunnett (William) Nelson all of Bonneau, SC and Claressa (Joseph) Shirah of St. Stephen, SC; a grandson reared in the home, Kevin Bennett; 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, John L. Middleton, Sr. of Bonneau, SC; cousin, Bishop Henry L. (Sadie) Bennett of St. Stephen, SC; a dear friend and best man at his wedding, St. Julian "Top" Solomon of Newark, NJ; adopted daughter, Janice (Joe) Bradley of Pineville, SC; special friends, Napoleon Gadsden, David Frost, William Wright, Roger and Ryan McFadden all of Bonneau, SC; other dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
