Obituary

"We are in place in this world for a limited time, and the first breath of the infant begins the race to the grave. A race everyone must run." As the quintessential athlete, the race for Joseph Sylvester Simmons began November 27, 1952 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He was born, the fourth child, of the late Joseph J. and Christina Richardson Simmons. He peacefully transferred his residence from his earthly tabernacle to his Heavenly Home on September 26, 2018 at The Village at Summerville Assisted Living Facility, Summerville, SC.

"Tee", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a member of the 1970 graduating class of Berkeley High School where he was an all-around athlete, playing football, basketball, and jumping the high hurdles in track and field.

At an early age, "Tee" accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined in fellowship with St. James AME Church. He maintained his membership throughout his life. Even through illness, "Tee" maintained a faithful and strong hold on to God's unchanging hand.

During his lifetime, "Tee" was employed as an X-ray technician at Franklin Hospital in Hempstead, NY and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He was also a master painter by trade.

On June 21, 1980, "Tee" was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Angela R. Coleman.

Joseph Sylvester "Tee" Simmons impacted the lives of many people with his infectious smile, good nature and kindness. He had a great love for life, never meeting a stranger. He loved old westerns, was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed playing baseball.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." "Tee" is now resting from his season of struggle. "Tee" is survived by: wife, Angela C. Simmons; sister, Minnie S. Davis; sister-in-law, Joan W. Simmons; brother-in-law, Joseph Coleman, all of Moncks Corner, SC. Also left to cherish fond memories are several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives, and friends.

Two siblings, Geranium (Bill) Witty and Winston Simmons, preceded Joseph in death.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me."
