Joseph McKinley Battle was born May 23, 1943 in Red Oak, North Carolina, a son of the late James and Beauther Arrington Battle. He departed this life on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Moncks Corner Medical Center, Moncks Corner, SC.
"Pee Wee", as he was known to family and friends, received his education the public schools of North Carolina. After relocating to South Carolina, he was employed by the Berkeley County School District as a School Bus Maintenance employee until his retirement in 1985.
Joseph was united in holy matrimony to Emma J. Anderson on January 19, 1970. He became a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, St. Stephen, SC, where he served faithfully until his health declined.
Joe was a great provider for his family. Because of his love for farming, his family never went lacking for food. He was famous for curing meats and planting fruits and vegetables. He also taught the young men in the community how to farm. Amongst his other hobbies were hunting, fishing and cooking. "Pee Wee" touched many lives throughout Berkeley County. He was known as "Joe Battle".
Those left to cherish his memories are: his loving and devoted wife, Emma J. Battle; children, Janet (Darryl) McLean, Veronica Anderson, Lorenzo Smith, Felon (Alfreda) Anderson, Grette Smith, Dorinda Battle, Cynthia Robinson and Robert Anderson; sister, Earnestine Battle; twenty-six (26) grandchildren, and eighteen (18) great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mrs. Victoria Anderson; aunt, Lucille Rick; in-laws, Estelle Anderson, Mary Smalls, Synovia (Clarence) Wigfall, Betty (Henry) Dyson, Elijah Wright, Elijah (Dot) Anderson, and Albertha Dicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Elliot Anderson; and four siblings, James, Jerry, Hazel and Bettie.
